Real Adventure Travel in Tanzania with Ndifo Safari

Safari Beyond the Ordinary

Ready to leave the resort behind & get out there?

While Ndifo Safari provides traditional luxury safaris throughout East Africa in a variety of lodges & camps, we’re most excited about our tented camp-based, walking safaris.  This experience isn’t for everyone, but geared towards adventurers who want to get close to the action & away from the crowds in an ultra luxurious tent.  You will fall asleep under the African stars & arise to an unforgettable sunrise from bed.

We will travel with our tents to the location that best suits your interests based upon the season.  There are a multitude of locations throughout Tanzania where we can provide accommodations. Each camp allows one to stay off the beaten tourist path & stay at untouched locales.  Our camp locations are in places like Ruaha National Park, Ugala River, Tarangire National Park, Lake Eyasi & Nyerere National Park.  In many areas, you will walk among the animals & in others, visit by jeep.

To provide the most native experience, our tours are remote and not on the overcrowded northern safari circuit.  Ruaha is a vast, near-virginal national park that is 50% bigger than the Serengeti with 10% of the visitors.  It is the 2nd  largest park in Tanzania with large herds of elephants with plenty of lions, leopards, wild dogs & hyena.  In fact, 10% of the world’s wild lion population is in this park.

And somewhat close to the main safari circuit is Lake Eyasi where you can camp & hunt with the Hadzabe tribe, the Bushmen.  These are some of the very last hunter-gatherers in the world – they live nomadically, not owning property or staying in one place too long.

Zero Tourist Façades — Just Raw, Authentic Immersion

The Itinerary

The Experience

Move with the animals — sleep where they roam while avoiding crowded safari circuits.

A sample itinerary for this one-of-a-kind experience might look like this, although as a completely bespoke experience, the guest will help develop their dream trip.  You can spend much longer in each place as you desire.

Day 1 Arrive in Arusha  Stay at Rivertrees Country Inn  We’ll meet to prepare for  the upcoming immersive wilderness experience over dinner at the lively Rivertrees restaurant with an outdoor pizza oven.

Day 2-4 To Tarangire National Park to set up camp.  Here you can sleep among the elephants & baobab trees.  You’ll never miss a moment of the action, but you will miss the crowds.  About 2.5 hours from Arusha.

Day 5-6 — To Lake Eyasi to camp with the Hadzabe just outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.   You can also visit the Datoga tribe very close by.Day 7 — to as long as you wantAfter several nights of roughing it out in the wild, you may want to stay somewhere as luxurious as it is exciting, the nearby Crater’s Edge by Wilderness.  A perfect place from which to explore the Ngorongoro Crater.

From here, it’s a half day drive (or short flight) to Arusha when you are ready to depart.

You’ll be tracking African wildlife in the bush, but also have the opportunity to spend time with the Hadzabe tribe (Bushmen) on hunts after you help make arrows with them around a campfire.  They live in bands of around 30 people in an egalitarian social structure & this group will welcome you with open arms.

Then they will teach you how to make fire with only sticks to cook what you’ve killed on the hunt.  You will also spend time gathering berries & honey & celebrating all the finds with the tribe.

The Hadza are completely nomadic & do not own property – their home is the open land of the Lake Eyasi basin & the neighboring Serengeti Plateau.  Their numbers have dwindled to around 1,250 individuals.  Their way of life is vanishing as villages grow & new settlements take away more & more of their territory.

There may not be long to meet these very unique & hospitable people.  They are eager to welcome you.

A Uniquely Tanzanian experience provided by a uniquely trained native

Ndifo Safari’s owner & lead guide, Steven Ngowi, is one of the few guides in East Africa to have achieved the walking guide qualification. This means that our guests may choose to experience the feeling of walking among the animals outside the confines of a vehicle when other providers may not be able to.
